This beautiful wool arrived by post as a gift from a dear friend. This is Kauni yarn, a Danish lamb wool brand manufactured in Estonia. It’s gorgeous and the colours make me want to keep it on the shelf just to look at it whenever my mood is low ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ve been thinking to order this yarn for ages now but I never have, because I was worried that it would be too coarse, as natural 100% sheep wool tends to be. And let’s be honest, it is coarse, but not as much as I thought, and I think a good soak in Eucalan will help it a lot. Each of these 24 gorgeous skeins is 175 metres, and I would say it’s probably sport weight – not as thin as fingering but not as thick as DK either.

It’s almost like it was made to try the Fair Isle knitting finally (because what’s better for that than a real Scandinavian wool?), and I have a few other ideas for it already ๐Ÿ™‚ They will most likely wait a while as the weather is so nice and sunny these days, and I prefer to work with wool when it’s a little cooler, but I can already imagine all the beautiful things that can be made with it.

If you don’t know Kauni yarn, check their colours online – except unicolour wool they also have marvelous variegated colourways with long colour strands. And they produce them is DK, fingering and lace weight. The wool also has a very delicate ‘sheepy’ smell, just enough to know it’s real ๐Ÿ™‚ So yeah, it’s great to have good friends who know how to cheer me up and what gifts are most welcome โค

And another surprise happened today. I participate in something called The Wool Lotto on facebook – it’s a nice idea of an Irish yarn store, in which each month 2 or 3 names are drawn from among the participants and everyone else either orders a skein or two of yarn for them, or buys them a voucher which can be used to order yarn. And this month I won! Which is almost too much to believe ๐Ÿ™‚ So I guess in April I’m going to receive a mysterious box with yarn and some vouchers that I’m going to exchange for even more yarn. Yay!

It all happened at the right time to be honest. Life’s been a little stressful recently, as my boyfriend’s contract is over, his company didn’t win the tender so they won’t extend the contract, and it’s pretty urgent to find something new, since my irregular income is not enough considering Dublin prices. So we’re looking for a new job for him but also for me, and we’re seriously considering moving away again to another country. I don’t know what will be, but well, some good news is exactly what I needed. And yarny news are always good, right? ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Thank you Anita, we definitely need some luck, it’s always so stressful for someone living abroad far away from the family and other natural ‘support groups’ when things don’t go as planned… but it must be ok, hopefully ๐Ÿ™‚
This wool is really amazing, I keep running to the wardrobe a few times a day just to look at it and touch it :)))
