Just an Update

I wanted to write a new post a few times over the last two weeks, but I just really wasn’t in the headspace for that. Between my travel to Brussels and now, a lot has been going on, and I think that my “knitting” reflected that! It’s been chaotic, with some failed attempts (summer knits of course, right?) and inability to focus on anything, and with one broken knitting needle (because of TENSION! Can you believe that stress )

So I thought it would be the best to break this post down into points and just write a little about everything. Buckle up!

  1. Summer knits: me 2:0

After all the failed summer projects from last year, it seems that things are not improving this year at all. I started and almost finished (see the photo above) the Purl Soho design Notched Hem Top. I had perfect yarn (linen with bamboo from Ice Yarns), I loved the pattern, it was simple and should be a blast – and yet I managed to ruin it completely. Just look at the armholes. I don’t even know how to comment on that! Just how did I manage to knit one armhole so big, and another one much smaller, is a big mystery and I don’t have an answer to it. I was so disgusted with myself when I realised what I’d done, that I just unraveled the whole thing. Maybe next year I will come up with a better idea for this yarn.

Then I tried to knit few different tops (I don’t even remember all the patterns right now) with another, cotton based summer yarn. That’s about as much as I went before ripping it all out each time:

I don’t know why, I’m just not feeling it at all. But I really want to make something with this silver cotton yarn, so I’m not giving up hope that the next I try to use it, it’s actually going to work out.

Current WIP and some Irish landscapes

Some cables, some lace – my new cardigan in the making

Ever since giving up on the idea of knitting something summery, I’ve been working on my new cardigan, Sweet as Honey by Drops Designs. So far, so good! It requires more focus and attention than my most recent, mindless knits, but it’s going well and I’m really enjoying it.

And I thought that it may be a good opportunity to share my yarn winding method with you!

I don’t have a winder and I don’t feel the need to buy one, as I actually enjoy winding yarn on my own – except for lace I guess, but I don’t use it very often so it’s not a big deal. I do it at my work desk, because the arms of my chair are just what I need.

Yes, that’s how I sit on a chair – my boyfriend always says his legs hurt just from looking at me like that, but I find it comfy!

And update, plans and general rambling

20180619_162705

I made this little guy yesterday just because I felt a sudden need to crochet a toy. I wanted it to be small (to use up this colourful scrap yarn), easy and fast, and so I chose Three Little Cats pattern by Sarah Lyons. It’s the Daddy Cat – there is also Mummy Cat and their Kitten in the collection, but I’m yet to crochet them when I have scraps of some different colourful and cheerful yarn.

The kitty is standing on my desk, watching me as I’m typing this, and I’m really curious how long it’s going to take before Ciri kidnaps it and claims it as her own 😉

New Year’s Blues

View from the Hook Lighthouse, Waterford

Warning: this is going to be a lengthy venting post with some soul searching from me. Not knitting related.

The beginning of the new year has been difficult for me. Not that anything happened, surprisingly we are both healthy (finally!), the Boyfriend is back home and things are just fine. But emotionally I’ve been struggling and my mood is very far from good.

Lighthouse’s tiny window and the stormy sea outside

I think it’s caused by a few different factors combined. Surely my poor health last year has contributed: when I look back I can see that in fact I’ve been feeling sick since my visit to Poland in April. I’d had a cold there which had triggered other chronic issues, and then like a real snowball effect one thing has followed another. Not being able to do much outside of home, cancelling plans all the time and feeling weak and fatigued for months definitely doesn’t help me stay positive.

I know Ciri, I feel the same…

Altamont Gardens

20170902_145619

Summer was a little harsh for me. I have some chronic health issues, and since my visit to Poland around Easter and the cold I’d had there, I’ve been in a light flare-up. Not very serious, but bad enough to keep me indoors more than usually during holidays. That’s when knitting came to the rescue, keeping me in good mood! Still, I’m happy to say that I’m feeling better again and I’m trying to take advantage of this fact and of the last days of fine weather as much as I can. And so this weekend we got into a car and drove to the beautiful Altamont House and Gardens in County Carlow.
