Silver Blossom Tee No. 2

First of all, I’d like to thank you all for your kind words under my previous post. Your encouragement and support means a lot!

I’m still working on digging myself out of the black hole and it gets better every day. I’m functional again, resumed my regular workouts, and they always help keep my mood up. I also keep knitting a lot and that’s why I already have another sweater to share here.

Remember the Silver Blossom Tee I’ve knitted in July for my Mum? Well, I decided to knit it again, this time in a winter version. I had a sweater worth of Drops Sky in my stash. It’s a super soft and light alpaca yarn that I’d bought during the last year’s Drops Alpaca Party. I didn’t have any specific plans for it, I just took the opportunity of a reduced price, because this yarn is really wonderful and so pleasant to work with. I’d used it in the past for my Mint Tulip Skirt and despite my worries that it might not survive too long (as the yarn is so delicate and seems very fragile), it’s still fine and looks well after being worn a lot during the last winter. I decided that Drops Sky will work well with this pattern, but I wanted to knit longer sleeves. I actually hesitated between full length or elbow-length, and eventually compromised with 3/4 sleeves!

Finished project: Kalaloch Pullover

I made it! My Kalaloch Pullover is ready and I’m really happy with how it turned out. I wasn’t sure till the very end if it would really fit me, with its funny short sleeves (just look above) and its wide circular yoke – it’s only at the end when the decreases are really made (it’s knitted bottom up) and suddenly the yoke starts looking like it should. But even with all those doubts I persisted and now I have this awesome loose fitting sweater that I’m going to wear as soon as autumn starts (which means soon!).

If I look awkward and tired, it’s because that’s exactly how I feel. But also happy because of the new sweater 😉

Candy Stripes Jumper

It’s official: my new favourite sweater is ready! In fact, it’s been ready for over a week now, I’ve just been lazy to update the blog and post some photos, so it’s high time to write about it.

I was super enthusiastic about the pullover in my previous post, and I still am. It turned out just as I hoped for: very soft and squishy, with a comfortable, relaxed fit. This yarn apparently stretches a little after blocking (I haven’t washed or blocked it yet as I don’t think I’m going to wear it anytime soon, it’s too warm), so I guess it will be even more relaxed once I decide to do it.

My Redy is ready!

In my last post, I mentioned that I probably wouldn’t be able to finish my Drops Alpaca BouclĂ© Redy pullover before I travel to Poland since I always slow down at the stage of knitting sleeves. But surprise, surprise! This pattern is so straight-forward, including the sleeves (no body shaping and no decreasing in the sleeves), that it took me only two evenings to knit the both sleeves and weave in the ends. And now I can enjoy all this cosy squishiness and wear it on my travel to feel comfortable and warm!

Currently on my needles and other stuff

At the end of the year I’ve started working on a new pullover in Drops Alpaca BouclĂ© bought during the end-of-the-year sale of alpaca-based Drops yarns. This yarn is very unique – the main thread is thin, but because of the loops it requires bigger needles and knits up like worsted weight, therefore it required a special pattern, suitable for a very lightweight (for its thickness) yarn. While browsing through the projects knitted by other users on Ravelry with Alpaca BouclĂ©, I found Redy Pullover by Ankestrick. I knew instantly that it was a perfect choice; with its relaxed fit and wide collar, and so I decided to knit it right away.

My last finished project in 2018

Happy New Year to all of you! I hope you are having an amazing final day of 2018 and that the coming year brings you joy and many new, exciting projects – including crafty ones!

I am spending the night just how I love – being lazy at home with my cats (I wouldn’t really like to leave them alone tonight, they’re scared of the fireworks so I feel better keeping an eye of them), knitting, playing games on my PC and drinking some sparkling wine. I’m not the biggest fan of New year’s Eve celebrations in general, so a cosy and slow night at home is just perfect for me.

Colour Therapy

20181021_141736

I’m getting better, but it’s a slow process. I’m not taking antibiotics or steroids (other than my regular inhaler) anymore, and I started taking daily longer walks this week. I’m still quite weak, and still cough a bit. I’m also terribly bored… seriously, I’m a person who loves being on my own and spending time at home, but I also like being outdoors, and being active. 3 weeks of very low activity seem to last forever and I’m already planning some awesome hikes and trips once I feel strong enough.

The weather matches my mood perfectly (although today it’s actually quite nice for a change); it’s windy, rainy, and dark. So in order to defeat bad mood, I took out some Noro Kureyon sock yarn from my stash and decided to knit with it, just because working with all these beautiful colours make me feel a little better. I used it in two of my most recent projects.

It’s summer, for real!

20180707_181525

It’s summer in Ireland, and quite an amazing one, with several weeks of sunshine and temperatures well above 20 degrees Celsius. Apparently it’s one of the warmest summers ever! Funny thing, in Poland that would be considered average or even cool summer weather, and as the Boyfriend says, in Greece that’s more like early spring or maybe autumn. But here it really feels hot, so much so that we’ve already spent a few weekend days on the beach and even went swimming a couple of times! In fact, since our living room has one glass wall (windows from ceiling to floor), it gets awfully hot inside and I’m looking forward for the weather to cool down.

And Ciri doesn’t love this heatwave either. She stretches herself down on the cool floor (here she is next to my desk but in fact she prefers cooler kitchen floor tiles) and tries to survive until the evening. Stella doesn’t really mind, maybe because her fur is a little shorter and less thick.

Dog hoodie – update

20180412_151032.jpg
She looks totally stressed out – clearly a camera shy dog!

I haven’t updated my blog in a while and there’s a good reason for that, as I’m on a short holiday in Poland. I decided not to bring any knitting or crochet projects with me. Honestly, it feels a little weird not to have my hands busy like I usually do at my own home when I’m sitting in front of TV or a computer, but I think it’s good to let my hands rest a bit. My right arm has been a little achy recently and I’m pretty sure it’s from knitting all the time, so I’m letting it rest and giving myself reason to miss the needles and hooks again 🙂 It’s definitely working!

While I’m busy meeting up with my family and friends, visiting some of my favourite places and eating (especially eating!), I thought I’d update everyone on Nika’s hoodie.
